Snowshoeing

The hike from Chanavey to Pellaud Lakes and then to the village of Thumel has an elevation gain of 200 meters and a round-trip hiking time of approximately 3 hours. The difficulty is rated as 'E' (Easy):

The fascinating route leads through enchanting landscapes and truly picturesque places. The itinerary is accessible to hikers of all levels thanks to its gentle slope and the absence of particular technical challenges. Here is a more detailed description of the snowshoeing excursion:

The outing begins in the hamlet of Chanavey, where, near the ski lifts, you cross a bridge that spans a peaceful stream. From here, follow the cross-country ski trail, which becomes your guide for much of the hike. The path leads you along the course of the picturesque "Dora di Rhemes" stream, crossing larch forests. You pass through the hamlets of Oreiller and Bruil; in the latter, the main town of the municipality, you can see the headquarters of the Gran Paradiso National Park wardens. Continuing on, thanks to a well-positioned staircase, you cross a rocky slope. After this part of the route, you reach the hamlet of Chaudanne, where the "Bouque Georgeoline" apartments are located. The highlight of the excursion is the area of the Pellaud Lakes, an enchanting place surrounded by larch and spruce forests. Here, in the village of the same name, are situated the "Le Jardin des Anglais" apartments. Continuing along the path, always following the Dora river, you enter the upper valley of Rhêmes-Notre-Dame. Along the route, dominated by Granta Parey (3,387 m), the symbolic mountain of this valley, you might have the opportunity to spot chamois, ibexes, foxes, stoats, and mountain hares, as well as eagles and bearded vultures. The endpoint of the excursion is the village of Thumel, at an altitude of 1,879 meters. Here you will find "Rêverie de Thumel" and the bar-restaurant "Le Village de Thumel," where you can enjoy a break and admire the magnificent surrounding landscape, with a panoramic view of the majestic Grand Combin (4,314 m).

The return journey will follow the same path that you took earlier.
